Venting Sliding Glass Cages -

Here is an easy idea for adding additional, adjustable venting to your slider cage.

Purchase a short length of pvc/plastic coated metal shelving that is at least the height of your glass. In adult cages, we use the shelving with the 1-inch bar seperations. If you go any smaller, they could get their arms caught up in the seperations between the bars. For sub-adult cages use the shelving with 1/2 inch seperations - or they may escape through the bars. We do NOT suggest this venting idea for animals under 8 inches.

Using wire/bolt cutters, trim the shelving to the height of your glass installed on your cages. The width will depend on the amount of venting you need. Usually 1/4 of your total cage length is sufficient and will still allow plenty of room to access the cage. Fit the shelving within the track of your sliders - insert it just like the glass. Slide it against one side of the cage. (We slide to the side without the light.) If you are using glass, slide the glass against the shelving. That will hold it in place to prevent your dragon from moving/shifting the shelving and escaping. If you are using plexiglass, you can affix the shelving to the side of the cage using a plastic clip and screw.

This will provide extra airflow for the warmer months - without altering the actual cage. This method of venting is easily adjustable according to your cage temperatures. The coated wire shelving is non-toxic, washable and best of all - removable during the winter months.

NOTE: Be sure to use the appropriate width between bars ==
If you are housing 16-inch animals to adults - use the 1 inch as their arms may be stuck between the bars on 1/2 inch.
If you are housing juveniles - use the 1/2 inch so they cannot squeeze between the bars.
If you do not want your animals to see one another - simply affix a piece of craft foam to the bars.

TIP: You will probably want to put the edge that was cut into the top tracking so any sharp edges do not damage the tracking.
